Il veleno dell'anima. Divieti e normative ecclesiastiche nel Cinquecento italiano

In the sixteenth century the beginning of professional theatre in Italy and Europe was marked by harsh controversy and condemnation from theologians, moralists and the Church. Since their contempt is not addressed to the whole theatre itself and, on the contrary, the Church promotes the sacred theatre at various levels, in particular the educational one, approving the kind of theatre made by amateurs and academies, the ecclesiastical censorship has to be interpreted in the light of an anthropological revolution of that period: the advent of women on the scene. Eros provokes a creak in the order of discourse.

L’inizio del teatro professionistico in Italia e in Europa, nel Cinquecento, è contrassegnato da dure polemiche e condanne da parte della Chiesa, di teologi e moralisti. Poiché non tutto il teatro viene condannato e anzi la Chiesa promuove a vari livelli il teatro sacro, quello educativo, e approva quello dei dilettanti e delle accademie, la censura ecclesiastica è da porre in relazione con una rivoluzione antropologica del tempo: l’avvento delle donne in scena. L’Eros mette in crisi l’ordine del discorso.
