Wörter unterwegs: Glanzlichter aus der Geschichte des Reisewörterbuchs

The travel dictionary, a hitherto little-studied type of dictionary, however, proves to be extremely interesting as it allows the cultural history of the journey and the traveller to be reconstructed. The history of the German language offers many examples of how, from time to time, attempts were made to overcome language barriers with the help of glossaries, dictionaries and phrase books. This study presents some examples, from the oldest manuscripts to the most recent dictionaries.

Il dizionario da viaggio, una tipologia di dizionario finora poco studiata, si rivela però estremamente interessante poiché permette di ricostruire la storia culturale del viaggio e del viaggiatore. La storia della lingua tedesca offre molti esempi di come, di epoca in epoca, si sia cercato di superare le barriere linguistiche con l’aiuto di glossari, dizionari e frasari. Questo studio ne presenta alcuni esempi, dai manoscritti più antichi ai dizionari più recenti.
