Oral communication may be immediate, spontaneous (in a dialogue, in conversation, in a formal/informal context, etc.) or prepared when speaking in public or in messages (during radio and television broadcasts, in videos, etc.). It is produced according to the realisations necessary for the situation, taking into account the interlocutors, the place, the time. When spoken, the message is prepared and transmitted almost simultaneously: any mistakes or false starts can only be corrected by a restatement, a hesitation or a break in the construction within the the message itself. This contribution offers a documented overview of the uses of contemporary spoken French.
