This volume fits into the context of philosophical reflection recent on the medieval debate on future contingents. It presents the first Italian translation of Duns Scotus's Lectura, I, d. 39, text assumed by historiography as "a cornerstone" of philosophy of all times. The translation, accompanied by a commentary (Ernesto Dezza) and two in-depth essays (Andrea Nannini, Davide Riserbato), fills a gap, conspicuous as regards the study of Scotus in Italy, making more usable this text. Lectura, I. d. 39 redefines the way of understanding the possible/ contingent modality, paving the way for the logical consideration of possibility and the synchronicity of contingency.
