L2 learning can take advantage from similarities among languages. By means of the well-known historical-comparative method, some data taken from the Germanic languages are taken into account and it is shown how language learning can profit from the observation of systematic differences between languages that belong to the same group. Similar observations are made as regards Slavic languages.
