The volume aims to offer a contribution of understanding and reflection on the theme of competence, against the background of the educational paradigm that places the person at the center of educational problems. It is not intended to consider this work as definitively complete. The aim is to reflect on studies that have gradually been the subject of analysis as part of the course of Pedagogical-Educational Skills of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. Particular attention is therefore paid to the issues that were dealt with during 2017 to 2023, related to issues related to human development. This survey has led adult and work pedagogy to shift attention from education to skills, more aimed at promoting an educational paradigm based on performance evaluation, to the education of human capitation, where, instead, care for existence and for the educational relationship are considered the emblematic factors of pedagogy. From this scenario, pedagogical competence emerges as decisive, essential and indispensable for educating in formal, non-formal and informal environments. It represents the desire and responsibility to educate, the ability and intentional choice to approach education, the mental spark, the seed of the idea that precedes the realization of an educational "intent", the condition for ensuring new educational opportunities and, finally, the explanatory paradigm to confer dignity on every human being.
