In 1574, the demolition of the altar of the Romanesque baptistery of St. John the Baptist in Mariano Comense led to the discovery of a stone capsule in the form of a sarcophagus, now kept in the parish archives; the reliquary contained fragments of figured silver-leaflets, the remains of a bone box, and textile fragments. The contribution reconsiders the capsella and its contents, also proposing a reconstruction of the bone cassette to which the silver laminettes were attached.

Abstract
In 1574, the demolition of the altar of the Romanesque baptistery of St. John the Baptist in Mariano Comense led to the discovery of a stone capsule in the form of a sarcophagus, now kept in the parish archives; the reliquary contained fragments of figured silver-leaflets, the remains of a bone box, and textile fragments. The contribution reconsiders the capsella and its contents, also proposing a reconstruction of the bone cassette to which the silver laminettes were attached.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
