The essay constitutes an interpretation of the work designed by Claudio Parmiggiani for the altar of the Santa Maria Assunta church in Gallarate in the light of his poetics. The altar, characterized by the presence of a certain number of heads reprised by different scultpures taken from the art history, assembled in a kind of disorder derived by what seems to be a chance composition, is treated in the books by several points of view. This essay is concentrated about four words that can explain it with regards to the entire itinerary of Parmiggiani work: the "sacred", the "heads", "memory" and "matter".
