This reference module discusses the nature of media coverage of issues related to food security and sustainability and the media effects on risk perceptions, attitudes and food decisions. The discussion of media effects is organized around the distinction between information sources, transmitter, content of the message and receiver. Media are one of the most effective channel through which the food risk is amplified, even if their impact depends also on individual predisposition, trust and the understanding of scientific arguments.
