The essay reviews different kinds kinds of printed books with manuscript annotations, which show some very different typologies, although they are spread throughout the whole history of printed books. Finally the essay considers three cases of XVIth Century annotated books theat belonged to famous ecclesiastics: studying these books changes the knowledge of their intellectual profile.
