The essay considers the strong interaction in the city between the presence of religious and public authorities in promoting peace both within the different cities and between the cities themselves. The sermons of the friars, marked by a strong ethical commitment and by the promise of eternal goods (or perennial punishments) found a wide echo in the urban world at the beginning of the 13th century, tired of continuous wars. The style of the new sermons, mostly performed outdoors and in front of large crowds, met with a wide response, even of a political nature: the preachers were acclaimed by the population as rectors of some cities, because in them, in their sermons and in their calls for pacification, the cities saw the possibility of agreeing between the parties in dispute. The results of such pacifications were not favorable and so the attempts of peace by the friars were set aside, even if their style of communication was also taken up in the public sphere.

Abstract
The results of such pacifications were not favorable and so the attempts of peace by the friars were set aside, even if their style of communication was also taken up in the public sphere.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
