This paper focuses on the history of a language as a field of research which considers concrete linguistic phenomena in a linguistic area characterised by variation. A linguistic phenomenon can be related to the territory and the social environment in which it is used; it can also provide information about the social relationships between individuals, and its structure can vary according to the phonic or graphic substance of which it is made. Language observed on the diachronic axis is related to discursive habits that spread through society and across geographical space. Thus, the history of a language is related to the history of society and culture.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the history of a language as a field of research which considers concrete linguistic phenomena in a linguistic area characterised by variation. A linguistic phenomenon can be related to the territory and the social environment in which it is used; it can also provide information about the social relationships between individuals, and its structure can vary according to the phonic or graphic substance of which it is made. Language observed on the diachronic axis is related to discursive habits that spread through society and across geographical space. Thus, the history of a language is related to the history of society and culture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
