As ancient Christian literature scholar, as Catholic University rector and as director of the newspaper "Avvenire" Giuseppe Lazzati was very interested in image and in journalism language. This essay analyzes the sources, the thought, the engagement of Giuseppe Lazzati in this subject and focuses on the relations between theory and practice, tradition and progress, humanities and modern studies that Lazzati expressed in his life. This essay underlines also the democrat faith that always inspired the works and the commitment of this important protagonist of the Italy's history in the XXth century
