The long manuscript, which is kept in the Staatsarchiv in Amberg and has never been published before, provides us with a valuable record of the educational journey of the young palatine counts of Sulzbach, Christian August and Johann Ludwig. The journey took place from 1642 to 1644, despite the economic difficulties of the family and the dangers of the ongoing war. The Thirty Years' War had in fact almost completely interrupted the custom of travelling to Italy, which for young nobles marked not only an important stage in their education, but also their official entry into the world of royalty. The edition of the manuscript is completed by other materials that enrich and document personal details of the journey: the expense book, which records many small events in the daily life of the two princes, and the correspondence that kept alive the link between the young travellers and their family. The richness of the commentary and the numerous notes accompanying the edition of the manuscripts make it possible to dissect the details of the journey, to identify places and characters and to reconstruct the world of the travellers in spite of the dry and bare style of the manuscript.

Abstract
The richness of the commentary and the numerous notes accompanying the edition of the manuscripts make it possible to dissect the details of the journey, to identify places and characters and to reconstruct the world of the travellers in spite of the dry and bare style of the manuscript.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
