The article offers a terminological analysis on the fan in a diachronic perspective. The history of the fan is accompanied by the history of its lexical and terminological network, which is characterised in different ways in centuries. Following the encyclopaedic contributions of the XVIII century, the fan is described in detail, and the knowledge about its production is still available today. Literary, musical and cinematographic quotations enrich the cultural environment of this fashion accessory.
