This essay aims to a general interpretation of the Orlandino by Teofilo Folengo in the cultural and religious context of early 16th century Venice. The contemporary literary debates are taken into account with a special focus on the chivalric romances and on the controversy between Latin and the Vernacular. Some passages of the text undergo a philological examination and their meaning is explained in a new way.
