The paper provides a critical reconstruction of the mathematical formulation of the Ricardian system proposed by Pasinetti. In particular, Pasinetti's model is presented as a formalization of the theory of distribution contained in Ricardo's Essay (1815) and in other writings prior to the publication of Ricardo's Principles (1817).
