This paper intends to clear up the radical difference between the movement pertaining to Being and the one which is peculiar to Essence. Since Hegel characterizes the latter as “reflection” such an aim is pursued through a detailed examination of the pages specifically devoted to this notion in the first section of the Logic of Essence. The conception of a self-related negativity shows itself to be the main feature of Essence: it plays a leading role in all the forms of reflection (positing, external, determining) and is the real ground for the well-known refutation of classical logic which is contained in the following chapter of the Logic of Essence.

Abstract
This paper intends to clear up the radical difference between the movement pertaining to Being and the one which is peculiar to Essence. Since Hegel characterizes the latter as “reflection” such an aim is pursued through a detailed examination of the pages specifically devoted to this notion in the first section of the Logic of Essence. The conception of a self-related negativity shows itself to be the main feature of Essence: it plays a leading role in all the forms of reflection (positing, external, determining) and is the real ground for the well-known refutation of classical logic which is contained in the following chapter of the Logic of Essence.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
