After a brief introduction on don Enrico Tazzoli’s knowledge of music, the paper focuses on the context, on the musical output, on the choice of texts, on the celebratory apparati tied to men, like the don Tazzoli, who were killed in Belfiore (Mantova) in the years of the Risorgimento. The essay analyzes first the compositions known as “patriotic”, then those written to honor the Martyrs, especially those who died in the years 1866-1867. The most important ones of these pieces were composed by Lucio Campiani (1822-1914), who studied also under Rossini and who was the leading figure on the Mantuan music scene
