Participating in mutual support groups brings significant benefits in the old age and aging. These groups can be a valid tool to help address the individual problems arising as a result of the aging process, but they can also be a way to meet the needs of family members and those who have to deal with issues often related to old age. The strong interaction of such groups with the community, both because they can become places where a voice is given to vulnerable groups, also through advocacy actions, and because they promote development of social capital, helps to promote a culture of equality and civic engagement that can counteract the dynamics of ageism and help the community to deal with aging-related problems.

Abstract
Participating in mutual support groups brings significant benefits in the old age and aging. These groups can be a valid tool to help address the individual problems arising as a result of the aging process, but they can also be a way to meet the needs of family members and those who have to deal with issues often related to old age. The strong interaction of such groups with the community, both because they can become places where a voice is given to vulnerable groups, also through advocacy actions, and because they promote development of social capital, helps to promote a culture of equality and civic engagement that can counteract the dynamics of ageism and help the community to deal with aging-related problems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
