The article outlines the biography and the complicated cultural and scientific route of Maria Montessori. The main stages of her psycho-pedagogical works are underlined,as well as the origin and development of the enterprise she furthered in special education and in children's care. Through the analysis is possible to outline the eclectic connotation of the anthropological and psycho-pedagogical thought that the researcher and pedagogue Maria Montessori had worked out.
Il contributo esplora la biografia e il complesso percorso culturale e scientifico di Maria Montessori.L'articolo indaga le significative linee di ricerca in ambito psicopedagogico approfondite dalla studiosa, così come le origini e gli sviluppi della sua concezione dell'infanzia e dell'educazione speciale avvenuti nel tempo. Attraverso l'analisi è possibile rintracciare la connotazione eclettica del pensiero psicopedagogico di Maria Montessori come studiosa e pedagogista.
