During the ceremony of ducal coronation in St. Ambrose church (1395) the bishop of Novara Peter of Candia, after archbishop of Milan and antipope Alexander V, pronounced a speech in honour of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, exalting the new duke’s virtues, emperor Venceslaus’ generosity and the excellence of the city of Milan. A critical edition of this speech, which represents a interesting example of courtly rethoric in XIVth century Milan, is provided here, basing on the MS Milan, Ambr. B 116 sup.
