The essay presents "La scala celeste" by Bernardino Baldi, composed in 1592 but published only in 1847 by Tito Cicconi. Divided into degrees and dedicated to St. Francis, the text suggests to the reader twelve themes to meditate about to gain eternal salvation. Each chapter consists of a prose introduction and a song. First, the history and physical description of the autograph manuscript (Milan, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, S.Q.+.I.31) is given; then, the contents of the work are offered. In the second part of the study, the song related to the tenth degree ("Della meditazione dell'inferno") is published with a commentary regarding philological, retorical, and prosopographical aspects.

Abstract
The essay presents "La scala celeste" by Bernardino Baldi, composed in 1592 but published only in 1847 by Tito Cicconi. Divided into degrees and dedicated to St. Francis, the text suggests to the reader twelve themes to meditate about to gain eternal salvation. Each chapter consists of a prose introduction and a song. First, the history and physical description of the autograph manuscript (Milan, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, S.Q.+.I.31) is given; then, the contents of the work are offered. In the second part of the study, the song related to the tenth degree ("Della meditazione dell'inferno") is published with a commentary regarding philological, retorical, and prosopographical aspects.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
