The essay introduces the reading to local statistics and research, giving a sociological frame to understand the situation of migrant people in the area, not avoiding to mention how territorial services and institutions reply to the immigrants’ need. A preliminary synthesis of data is given (drawn from the following chapters) before to conclude that Brescia indicators show a positive trend of integration (e.g. slight demographic increase; reduction of unemployment rates for foreign population; more legal citizenship obtained, etc.), and that residents with an immigrant background not only are going to contribute more and more to the public social life, but they challenge local organisations and institutions to accommodate themselves in order to produce an innovative, peaceful co-existence between ‘old’ and ‘new’ Italians. The challenge addresses the crisis discourse by suggesting new kinds of participation and intercultural accommodation, good to counteract the current undermining of European values.

Abstract
The challenge addresses the crisis discourse by suggesting new kinds of participation and intercultural accommodation, good to counteract the current undermining of European values.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
