Bolzano does not devote much space to the specific elaboration or critique of the concept of "category". The aim of the paper is to clarify the meaning of Bolzano's criticism to Aristotle and Kant on this point, thereby delineating some peculiar concepts of Bolzano (i.e. "representations in themselves" or "ideas"). Based on these concepts, the notion of "summum genus" is originally rethought and any "deduction" is radically rejected.
