The article deals with the theme of the presence and influence of the work of the medieval poet Chaucer on the poetry of Keats. Four phases of influence are identified, each characterized by the mediation of a specific intermediary: Leigh Hunt, William Hazlitt, John Dryden, and, in the final phase, by Keats, who acts as mediator for himself. The contribution of the various authors to the knowledge and use, on the part of Keats, of Chaucer, is identified and critically commented as also the final result of their mediation as evidenced in the specific poems that are commented and evaluated critically and in detail.
Il saggio affronta il tema della presenza e dell'influsso dell’opera del poeta medievale Chaucer sulla poesia di Keats. Vengono identificati quattro fasi di influsso, ciascuno caratterizzato dalla mediazione di uno specifico intermediario: Leigh Hunt, William Hazlitt, John Dryden, ed infine, nella fase finale, da Keats, che agisce come mediatore di se stesso. Per ogni fase vengono identificate e commentate criticamente sia il contributo dei vari autori alla conoscenza e utilizzazione da parte di Keats di Chaucer, sia il risultato conclusivo della loro mediazione, come si riscontra nelle specifiche poesie che vengono criticamente e dettagliatamente commentate e valutate.
