The Floure and the Leafe: A Keatsian Source of Inspiration

In this work the medieval text "The Floure and the Lefe" is examined, a poem that at the time of Keats was attributed to Chaucer and on which the Romantic poet wrote a sonnet. The study presents evaluations and critical opinions of both the medieval poem and the Keatsian sonnet. Furthermore a series of dualities in "The Floure and the Lefe" are identified followed by a detailed analysis of the poem of Keats to evidence how the themes examined and evidenced in the medieval poem are reproposed and reelaborated by the Romantic poet.

In questo lavoro viene esaminato e commentato il testo medievale "The Floure and the Lefe", che al tempo di Keats veniva attribuito a Chaucer e sul quale il poeta romantico ha scritto un sonetto. Lo studio presenta le valutazioni e le opinioni critiche sia della poesia medievale sia del sonetto keatsiano. Inoltre il lavoro enuclea una serie di dualità in "The Floure and the Lefe", e quindi procede ad una dettagliata analisi del sonetto di Keats per mostrare come le tematiche esaminate vengono riproposte e rielaborate.
