Language in Texts and Contexts

In the various chapters the following themes are treated: the characteristics of scientific discourse, the mechanics of medical texts, words as objects, nominalization and epitheting in the letters of Keats's Northern Tour, changing conventions in the editing of John Clare's poems, a comparative analysis of different translations of "The Windhover" of G. M. Hopkins, an overview of medical and lexicographical definitions of the placebo, the terminology of childhood diseases, and growth imagery in the language of finance.

Nei vari capitoli vengono affrontate le seguenti tematiche: le caratteristiche del discorso scientifico, i meccanismi linguistici e retorici di un testo medico, le parole come oggetti, l'uso dei sostantivi e degli aggettivi da parte di Keats nelle sue lettere dal viaggio in Scozia, le convenzioni editoriali per le poesie di John Clare, un’analisi comparativa di cinque diverse traduzioni in italiano della poesia "The Windhover" di G. M. Hopkins, una panoramica delle definizioni mediche e lessicografiche del placebo, la terminologia delle malattie infantili, le immagini di crescita nel linguaggio finanziario.
