Among the many challenges facing today's school, the paper deals with two issues: education for the citizenship of the young generations and evaluation. In particular, the attention is focused on students’ evaluation of teaching (SET) in secondary school with the aim of problematizing it and questioning its meaning in relation to citizenship education. This evaluative practice, widespread in higher education, is relatively recent in the scholastic context examined but it appears full of potential for all the stakeholders involved. It gives infact the teachers the opportunity to reflect, moving from their studentes’ perceptions, on the way of acting, on the strengths, on those of weakness in oder to plan improvements for the future. Less explored, but directly connected to the issue of citizenship, is the potentional effect for students. They, often for the first time, can exercise their right in a democratic way. However, it is a potential fallout, because to avoid vicious derives, the task must be faced with responsibility and autonomy. To this purpose, we need organizational conditions and training supports to guide and accompany the students. Participating in the evaluation process with a role that is certainly different from the usual one can represent for them a precious opportunity for the development and concrete exercise of citizenship skills by feeling part of the school community.
