This booklet contains the proceedings of the IX edition of the Summer School, held in Santa Maria di Leuca (LE) from 23 to 26 July 2018, and focuses attention on migrants as economic actors, analyzing the reality of immigrant work in Italy and in Europe, in its most problematic aspects and in the most virtuous ones. Alongside the unquestionable challenges that the various components of contemporary migration pose to European labor markets, forcing them to deal with the problems of the labor inclusion of often vulnerable subjects, the School wanted to investigate the prospects of an authentic enhancement of immigration, capable of go beyond the "myopia" of current models of integration and development. Also because of its significant demographic weight - destined to grow further in the coming years - the population with a migration background represents a decisive stake for the competitiveness of European economies and the sustainability of their accumulation regimes and their welfare systems. As well as an extraordinary resource for the same communities of origin of migrants, according to a perspective - evoked by the idea of co-development - which must still be strongly strengthened.
Il presente fascicolo raccoglie gli atti della IX edizione della Summer School, svoltasi a Santa Maria di Leuca (LE) dal 23 al 26 luglio 2018, e focalizza l’attenzione sui migranti come attori economici, analizzando la realtà del lavoro immigrato in Italia e in Europa, nei suoi aspetti più problematici e in quelli più virtuosi. Accanto alle indiscutibili sfide che le diverse componenti delle migrazioni contemporanee pongono ai mercati del lavoro europei, obbligandoli a misurarsi coi problemi dell’inclusione lavorativa di soggetti spesso vulnerabili, la Scuola ha voluto indagare le prospettive di un’autentica valorizzazione dell’immigrazione, capace di andare oltre la “miopia” degli attuali modelli di integrazione e di sviluppo. Anche in ragione del suo significativo peso demografico – destinato a crescere ancora nei prossimi anni – la popolazione con un background migratorio rappresenta infatti una posta in gioco decisiva per la competitività delle economie europee e la sostenibilità dei loro regimi di accumulazione e dei loro sistemi di welfare. E, insieme, una straordinaria risorsa per le stesse comunità d’origine dei migranti, secondo una prospettiva – evocata dall’idea di co-sviluppo – che deve essere ancora fortemente potenziata.
