There is a deep relationship between what we wear, what we are and the society we live in. Far from being a superficial and ephemeral phenomenon, fashion has complex relationships with culture, succeeding in expressing the lifestyles, tastes and values of a certain era. Fashion satisfies the desire to show the body adorned and decorated, it expresses curiosity for the new, it offers instruments to be noticed and allows for identifying oneself as part of a group. Clothes, just like the body, thus speak a language - at times very elaborate - that serves to negotiate identities and helps define situations and interactions. This is the viewpoint of this brief contribution that, on one side, aims to show the wealth of meanings of fashion as a cultural expression, starting from the awareness that it can represent a lens, a perspective of analysis, an instrument for interpretation of social matters; and on the other, to focus attention on certain recent phenomena induced (or favored?) by digital technologies, changes that seem to indicate not only new horizons for production and communication but also urgently set new standards in training systems.

Abstract
There is a deep relationship between what we wear, what we are and the society we live in. Far from being a superficial and ephemeral phenomenon, fashion has complex relationships with culture, succeeding in expressing the lifestyles, tastes and values of a certain era. Fashion satisfies the desire to show the body adorned and decorated, it expresses curiosity for the new, it offers instruments to be noticed and allows for identifying oneself as part of a group. Clothes, just like the body, thus speak a language - at times very elaborate - that serves to negotiate identities and helps define situations and interactions. This is the viewpoint of this brief contribution that, on one side, aims to show the wealth of meanings of fashion as a cultural expression, starting from the awareness that it can represent a lens, a perspective of analysis, an instrument for interpretation of social matters; and on the other, to focus attention on certain recent phenomena induced (or favored?) by digital technologies, changes that seem to indicate not only new horizons for production and communication but also urgently set new standards in training systems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
