Parma Calcio was born on 27 July 1913 under the name of Verdi Football Club in honor of the great maestro Giuseppe Verdi. The Verdi F.C. he started competing with the teams of the neighboring areas wearing a flamboyant yellow-orange checkered shirt. On September 26, the first match against Reggiana (Verdi's 1-0 defeat) was played, which will be for many years, in numerous derbies, the irreducible opponent of the Verdi. On December 16 of the same year the Verdi was renamed Parma Football Club. Sixteen years later, in 1928-29, the club later renamed Parma Associazione Sportiva, won the promotion in Serie B. Since then there are sporting joys and bitterness and a continuous ups and downs between the B series and the promotion, until January 2, 1968 when the team is put into liquidation. This is how the new Parma (emanation of Parmense established in 1968 on the wishes of a group of industrialists) regained the B series in 1972-73, and then retreated the following year. After a decade of ups and downs, in 1983-84 Parma regained the Serie B, the following season with the coach Arrigo Sacchi, Parma got the seventh place; but at the end of the season the coach leaves the Parma bench to take the Milan one. President Ceresini then engages the Bohemian Zeman and opens the door to Parmalat, the new sponsor of the partnership and minority shareholder. From this moment on, with the advent of Parmalat, a new period begins for Parma Calcio. Today this society is on the lips of the most as a tangible example of the degeneration that the business world has determined on the world of sport. The impression that comes from the chronicle of the first weeks of 2004 is that the experience of this club is to be rejected in full without discerning the responsibilities of the leaders of the industrial group to which they belong and the organizational and management choices that have accompanied the over twenty years of partnership between Parma Calcio and Parmalat. This chapter aims to document an organizational modality related to the management of the youth sector which has aroused strong interest in other Italian and foreign clubs over the last few years. The most recent economic and financial events of the Parmalat group that involve the subsidiary Parma Calcio have therefore nothing to do with what we intend to report on the management experience of Parma Calcio. The theme on which we wish to focus readers' attention concerns the experiment in the management of the nursery known as the Parma Football School Project, started in the 90s through the creation of a dense network of structured relationships with minor football clubs in order to collaborate in the training and selection of new football talent.
