The chapter analyzes the role of monetary and fiscal policy in an open economy. The chapter is divided into three main sections. The first is focused on the short term, when prices are sticky. The second is devoted to the analysis of the medium run, when the price level can change. The third and final section takes into consideration the role of economic policy in an open economy when interest rates are at the zero-lower bound.
