The contribution traces the political and social use of theater and entertainment at the time of Lorenzo de 'Medici. The intention is to highlight how, unlike what has hitherto been supported by historiography, the theatrical policy of the Magnifico was neither princely nor open propaganda, except in the last years of his life, when his hegemony over Florence had become firmer. The essay thus underlines the ambiguous political position of the Medici leader highlighted by its contained spectacular commissions
Il contributo ripercorre l'uso politico e sociale del teatro e dello spettacolo al tempo di Lorenzo de' Medici. L'intenzione è quella di mettere in evidenza come, a differenza da quanto finora sostenuto dalla storiografia, la politica teatrale del Magnifico non sia stata né di carattere principesco né di aperta propaganda, tranne negli ultimi anni della sua vita, quando la sua egemonia su Firenze era diventata più solida.
