Within the wider Arab world and its regional specificities, this essay tackles the Arabian cultural context of the Gulf with reference to its unique cultural milieu, its shared sense of history and values. Within this dimension, the author’s analysis focuses on Tradition and Modernity between different forms of communication, towards the creation of knowledge-based societies in the region. The equation ‘tradition – socio-economic development- modernisation’ is seen as the consequence of a series of events which were and are in relation with the Western World and Europe, but which find a logical explanation in the local ‘memory of knowledge’, in its different forms of knowledge preservation and organisation. This article outlines some of these ‘Arabian perspectives’, with special reference to internal debates emerging in the press, the media and the traditional meetings. In this sense, internal debates become precious keys to a more thorough and authentic knowledge and understanding from "inside" of local realities and of their social, cultural and political evolution.
