La tradizione del tè nella cultura inglese: un excursus dal XVII al XXI secolo

The essay means to explore the presence of tea in English culture and literature from the second half of the 17th century, when it started to be imported in England, to the 21st century. In particular, the essay deals with the writers who have described the 5 0’clock tea ceremony in their works, and with the ways tea is present both in films, TV series and idiomatic sayings. The essay explains also how both high tea and low tea have shaped Brits’ everyday life and have become relevant British symbols.

Il saggio si pone l’obiettivo di esplorare la presenza del tè nella cultura inglese a partire dalla seconda metà del XVII secolo, quando la bevanda cominciò ad imporsi sul mercato inglese, fino ai giorni nostri in cui il rito del tè è un’importante tradizione, rispettata in tutte le istituzioni del Regno Unito. Importanti autori letterari, come Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde e E.M. Forster, hanno dedicato al rito del tè pagine importanti nei loro lavori, mentre il cinema e la TV lo hanno inserito in numerose scene all’interno dei loro prodotti.
