ANDARE PER IL MONDO. MIGRAZIONI DI MESTIERE E COMUNITA' LOCALI NELLE VALLI TRA IL VERBANO E IL CERESIO IN ETA' MODERNA

The thesis consists of a thorough investigation on emigration from the valleys between Lake Lugano and Verbano from the sixteenth to the early nineteenth century, from mostly unpublished sources and, especially, the deeds preserved in the State Archives of Milan. The research has allowed us to bring to light the characteristic aspects of the local migrations and their connecting elements with those that started the entire foothills of the Alps of Lombardy. Were identified, in particular, the main goals in working relationship with the universe of trades, not just the most famous and traditional building, the binding of emigrants with their families, communities and institutions of the places of departure. Finally, an important part of the work has focused on the sphere of mentality and individual devotions reflected in the wills.

La tesi consiste in un'indagine approfondita sull'emigrazione dalle valli che si snodano tra i laghi Verbano e Ceresio dal Cinquecento al primo Ottocento, a partire da fonti per lo più inedite e, specialmente, gli atti notarili conservati nell'Archivio di Stato di Milano. La ricerca ha consentito di portare alla luce gli aspetti caratteristici delle migrazioni locali e i loro elementi di raccordo con quelle che partivano dall'intera fascia prealpina lombarda. Si sono individuate, in particolare, le principali mete lavorative in relazione con l'universo dei mestieri, non solo i più noti e tradizionali dell'edilizia, il legame degli emigranti con le loro famiglie, le comunità e le istituzioni dei luoghi di partenza. Infine, una parte importante del lavoro ha riguardato la sfera della mentalità e delle devozioni individuali riflessa nei testamenti.
