This thesis is composed of three different, strongly intertwined studies, each making their own theoretical and managerial contributions. The thesis investigates the world of vulnerability, drawing from different streams of literature: disabilities and gender studies, especially through a critical lens, body work, feminism and post-feminism in media studies. All the studies included in this thesis stemmed from an empiric interest immerged in an intense social and human context. Thus, fundamental issues for the advocacy of human rights emerged while carrying out the research presented in this thesis. The thesis aims to unveil different phenomena related to people with disabilities, their lives and their relationship with abled-bodied people. Furthermore, this thesis seeks to interpret the most profound mission of disabilities studies: to allow disabled researchers to engage first-hand in studies related with disability and its policies, and to give their own unique and inestimable perspective. The development of disabilities studies is fundamental for the extended diffusion and application of the UN convention of rights for people with disabilities, as encapsulated in the motto “Nothing about us, without us”. Indeed, in the three studies that comprise this thesis, an inclusive approach to the research has been adopted, following all the processes from the perspective of a disabled body author discussing with an abled-bodied scholar, as proposed in the field of disabilities studies.

Abstract
Indeed, in the three studies that comprise this thesis, an inclusive approach to the research has been adopted, following all the processes from the perspective of a disabled body author discussing with an abled-bodied scholar, as proposed in the field of disabilities studies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
