The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is having a significant impact on global healthcare, economics and general human well-being. In addition to the tragic effect of COVID-19 on the medical health of the global population, its ominous and physically invisible presence could have an enduring impact on mental health and the everyday life of millions of people worldwide. Thus far, 187 countries have been affected, with more than 5 million confirmed infections and over 345,000 deaths. The adverse impact on mental health concerns not only health care workers, who are facing exhausting work rhythms and the need to manage patients experiencing extreme suffering, but also millions of people forced into isolation and/or quarantine.
These conditions put health care workers as well as the general population at a high risk of developing stress-related psychopathological symptoms, anxiety disorders, depression, moral injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with potential long-term consequences on their mental and physical health.
Numerous scientific studies have shown that, among various therapeutic programs, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) represent highly specialized and effective tools for the prevention, assessment and treatment of mental health concerns, including stress-related psychopathological symptoms, depression, and anxiety disorders, such as PTSD. These technologies, in fact, can help patients both process the emotional aspects of traumatic memories and learn useful resources to better manage COVID-19 related stressors. Such approaches have been shown to be effective with victims of stress and trauma from other sources including war, natural disasters, interpersonal violence and terrorist attacks. Furthermore, various studies have demonstrated that people play video games (VGs) because of their inherent capacity to play a role as a distraction from undesirable emotional states, such as anxiety and stress, by providing a temporary diversion from (real-world) negative events or emotions. Different genres of VGs have proved capable of eliciting positive emotions and decreasing stress and anxiety in players, especially casual video games (CVGs) and exergames. Additionally, VR/AR games have also recently proven effective to decrease stress and anxiety in individuals.
It is in this context that we welcome contributions to this Research Topic entitled “Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Video Games for Addressing the Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health”. Theoretical, empirical, experimental and case studies are welcome. All contributions should clearly address the practical and theoretical implications of the research reported, and short papers (2-5 pages) will be considered if they meet these criteria.
We therefore welcome submissions of Original Research and Reviews on the following topics:
•Application of VR/AR and VGs for psychological support during the COVID-19 crisis;
•Design and evaluation of VR/AR contents and VGs for the prevention and treatment of mental health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic;
•Applications that differentially consider the specific needs of frontline healthcare providers, COVID-19 survivors, previous trauma victims (military veterans etc.), and the general population;
•Possible uses of VR/AR and VGs at home, schools, hospitals and clinics for psychological support in the COVID-19 crisis and/or the methodologies and technologic approaches that will promote access and adoption in these settings;
•Theoretical perspective of understanding VR and VGs in the prevention and treatment of mental health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic;
•Potential impact (socio-cultural, economic and environmental) of VR and VGs for psychological support in the COVID-19 pandemic;
•Methods for promoting safety and infection prevention in the use of VR/AR head-mounted displays;
•Challenges and pitfalls in applying VR and VGs for psychological support in the COVID-19 pandemic purposes.

Spigno G.
Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI

An increasing number of behavioral studies are conducted online with the aim of including a wider and more heterogeneous sample of participants. this practice was encouraged by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which implied social distancing, hence preventing access to laboratories as a measure to contain the infection. in the present work some online platforms will be discussed, considering their characteristics, advantages and limitations, in order to facilitate researchers in the possible selection of the most suitable tool for their needs.

Alimenti ultra-processati
Spigno G.
Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI

Editorial, Special Issue on ‘Hybrid cars and car recycling: Steps towards the clean car and the closed-loop of materials

Chanaron, J-J.

Settore SECS-P/02 - POLITICA ECONOMICA
With the surge in environmental concerns all over the world, in particular global warming and air pollution which are partly caused by automobile transportation, the issue of a clean car is today clearly on the top of the agenda. The media are disseminating the feeling that the hybrid technology is an obvious answer to such problems. During the last few years, another environmental issue – car recycling and End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) management – became a hot area of confrontation between the car industry and policy makers. The Directive 2000/53/EC on ELVs, which has been adopted after a ten-years technical and policy debate, imposes ambitious targets of reuse/recycling/recovery to be achieved in the near future, ‘extended producer responsibility’ for carmakers, limitations for the use of certain materials, standards of ‘recyclability’ of new cars, and other provisions that involve design and product making. In order to avoid relying only on anecdotic events and propaganda pamphlets, there is an obvious need for academically based research on the economics and marketing of hybrid vehicles as well as on ELV-related technological and organisational innovation. It is the central objective of such special issue of the International Journal of Automotive
Technology and Management. This special issue is a collection of six papers by academic experts of this industry, of which four on hybrid technologies and two on ELVs. All papers have been peer reviewed before being accepted

The integration of different approaches to study the interpersonal dynamics of argumentation

Bova, Antonio

Settore M-PSI/05 - PSICOLOGIA SOCIALE
Argumentation is an essential dimension of educational and professional activities because it is a relevant competence to deal with contradictions, doubts, and complex decisions. Moreover, argumentative practices can sustain or foster reasoning and learning in many different contexts. In this vein, argumentation is not intended as limited to a formal debate since it includes everyday interpersonal efforts to engage in discussions with others to co-construct knowledge and meaning and as a vehicle and site of interpersonal socialization.
The tradition of philosophical and linguistic investigations about argumentation is awe-inspiring. However, the researchers have only recently been directed to studying interpersonal dynamics within argumentative interactions. Interpersonal argumentation refers to the individual, social, contextual, and cultural processes that contribute to understanding argumentative interactions as constructive exchanges (e.g., leading the co-construction of knowledge, meaning, and problem-solving).
The special issue brings together a collection of papers that critically examine and extend the current psychological, linguistic, and educational literature on the crucial role of interpersonal dynamics within argumentative interactions. In particular, the contributions all share the assumption that argumentative interactions are socialization practices in which individuals evaluate, criticize, challenge, and revise claims through discourse in action. By adopting diverse theoretical frameworks and research approaches, the papers included in this special issue provide an accessible discussion of selected theoretical and empirical issues at the forefront of research, contributing to discovering the crucial importance of depth knowledge about the role and functions played by interpersonal dynamics within argumentative interactions.

Purpose of review In chronic pulmonary sarcoidosis, the transition from the inflammatory to the fibrotic stage of the lungs occurs in about 10-20% of cases, eventually causing end-stage fibrotic disease. To date, pathogenetic mechanisms and clinical management remain challenging; thus, we highlight the recent evidence in pulmonary fibrotic processes, clinical signs for an early detection and the potential role of the current investigated antifibrotic agents and promising targeted therapies. Recent findings Recent findings of relevant key cellular pathways can be considered as a glimmer of light in the complexity of sarcoidosis. In some patients, granulomas persist and serve as a nidus for fibrosis growth, sustained by several fibrosis-stimulating cytokines. Preclinical studies have detected profibrotic, antifibrotic and pleiotropic T cells as promoters of fibrosis. Epigenetics, genetics and transcriptomics research can lead to new target therapies. Antifibrotic drug nintedanib has shown a positive effect on non-idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis fibrotic lung diseases including fibrotic sarcoidosis; other antifibrotic drugs are under investigation. Pulmonary fibrosis strongly impacts the outcome of sarcoidosis, and a better understanding of the underlying pathogenic mechanisms can facilitate the development of novel treatments, improving clinical care and life expectancy of these patients. The greatest challenge is to investigate effective antifibrotic therapies once fibrosis develops. The role of these findings in fibrotic sarcoidosis can be translated into other interstitial lung diseases characterized by the coexistence of inflammatory and fibrotic processes.

IntroductionIdiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, irreversible, and fatal lung disease with unmet medical needs. Autotaxin (ATX) is an extracellular enzyme involved in the generation of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA). Preclinical and clinical data have suggested the ATX-LPAR signaling axis plays an important role in the pathogenesis and the progression of IPF.Areas CoveredThe aim of this review is to provide an update on the available evidence on autotaxin inhibitors in IPF and further details on the ongoing clinical studies involving these molecules.Expert OpinionThe development of autotaxin inhibitors as a potential therapy for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has gained attention due to evidence of their involvement in the disease. Preclinical and early-phase clinical studies have explored these inhibitors' efficacy and safety, offering a novel approach in treating this disease. Combining autotaxin inhibitors with existing anti-fibrotic agents is considered for enhanced therapeutic effects. Large phase III trials assessed Ziritaxestat but yielded disappointing results, highlighting the importance of long-term observation and clinical outcomes in clinical research. Patient stratification and personalized medicine are crucial, as pulmonary fibrosis is a heterogeneous disease. Ongoing research and collaboration are essential for this advancement.

Mediterranean Diet, In-Hospital Exercise, and the Incidence of Hospital-Acquired Disability in Old Patients

Settore MED/09 - MEDICINA INTERNA
Hospital-acquired disability (HAD) refers to the loss of capacity to perform one or more activities of daily living following hospitalization. This condition is highly insidious and results from the combined effects of the acute illness and hospitalization (e.g., prolonged bedrest, adverse effects of medications, nosocomial infections). Old patients who developed HAD can rarely take care of themselves at discharge and most of them experience persistent disability. Indeed, old patients with HAD show a three-fold greater risk of nursing-home admission than those with no in-hospital deterioration of functional status. This scenario is concerning, given that the prevalence of HAD in advanced age is approximately 30%.

Settore SECS-P/07 - ECONOMIA AZIENDALE
Africa is at a crossroads. On the one hand, it faces numerous intractable sustainable development
challenges, including widespread and persistent poverty (Schoch & Lakner, 2020),
increasing competition for resources (Economist, 2020), and the intensifying effects of
global climate change (United Nations, 2020). These challenges are exacerbated by the Coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic (Paci, 2021). On the other hand, many African economies
are growing rapidly (EY, 2021), whilst over the last decade significant progress has been
made in governance and sustainable development across the continent (Signe & Gurib-
Fakim, 2019). Many African cities have become centers of (social) innovation and entrepreneurship
(FT, 2019), with Africans shaping their own destinies and developing local solutions
to the challenges they face. Perceptions outside Africa are also changing, with the
opportunities and potential of the continent and its peoples increasingly recognized.
This special issue of the Africa Journal of Management aims to reflect on and speak to
these transformations. The papers in it present novel empirical and theoretical insights
on social innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa, adding to this emerging field and
showcasing the contributions that research from Africa and utilizing African data can
make to wider social innovation and entrepreneurship scholarship (George, 2015; George
et al., 2016; Rivera-Santos et al., 2015).
Social innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa are the subject of growing academic
attention (Bitzer et al., 2015; Ciambotti & Pedrini, 2021; Holt & Littlewood, 2017; Littlewood
& Holt, 2018a, 2018b; Mirvis & Googins, 2018; Rivera-Santos et al., 2015; Sottini
et al., 2021; Steinfield & Holt, 2019; etc.). Nevertheless, research has struggled to keep
pace with rapid developments on the ground and in practice. Scholarship on social innovation
and entrepreneurship in Africa also remains fragmented, with many research questions
unanswered. For this reason, this special issue of the Africa Journal of Management
was convened.
The papers in this special issue all contribute to advancing the field of research on
social innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa, and to wider social innovation and
entrepreneurship scholarship. In the next section, we review the state of the field. We
then introduce each of the papers and discuss their contributions. Finally, we explore
areas for further enquiry, building on the perspectives and insights offered by this
special issue.

What is this summary about?: This plain language summary describes the main findings from a trial in people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (also called IPF) that was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. IPF is a rare disease, where the lungs become more and more scarred, with breathing and oxygen uptake becoming increasingly difficult. This trial looked at the medication BI 1015550 as a potential treatment for IPF. It compared BI 1015550 to placebo (a dummy drug that does not contain any active ingredients) to investigate the effectiveness of the drug in treating people with IPF. The study also looked at the additional medical issues (referred to as adverse events) reported during the study. Some participants took approved treatments to reduce scarring (nintedanib or pirfenidone), and some did not. What were the results?: Overall, 147 people with IPF from 22 countries took part in the trial. The results showed that BI 1015550 prevented lung function from decreasing in people with IPF. There was no difference in the percentage of patients with medical issues rated as severe by the study physician with BI 1015550 or placebo. However, more people treated with BI 1015550 had diarrhoea. Among those treated with BI 1015550, 13 participants stopped their treatment due to medical issues, whereas treatment was not stopped due to medical issues for any participants treated with placebo. What do the results mean?: These results provide evidence that BI 1015550 prevents lung function from worsening in people with IPF. Further clinical studies will be conducted in the future to test BI 1015550 in a larger group of people with IPF and other forms of lung scarring that get worse over time, and for a longer time period.

Within the insurance field, the digital revolution has enabled the collection and storage of large quantities of information. This era is referred to as “big data”, since the great uncertainty to be modelled is too complex for traditional data processing techniques. For insurance purposes, big data refers to unstructured and/or structured data being used to influence underwriting, rating, pricing, forms, marketing and claims handling.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in actuarial science is a rapidly growing area that is significantly impacting the insurance industry. This integration of technology involves both machine learning (ML) algorithms and data analysis to help actuaries develop more accurate risk assessments and predictions. With a larger possibility of accessing huge sets of data, actuaries can leverage AI to automate underwriting and claims processing, improve customer experience and provide valuable insights to insurers to perfect decision-making strategies. In this way, AI has the potential to transform traditional actuarial methodologies and provide customized solutions for individual clients.
In particular, the field of insurance has greatly benefited from the application of data science. With the use of data analytics, insurance companies can now develop predictive models to better manage risk, underwrite policies more accurately and determine valid pricing. Data science is also used to automate specific procedures such as claims processing, fraud detection, and customer retention. Insurance companies may use data science to identify and build new products that better match clients’ needs and preferences. In addition, the accessibility of data can improve operational efficiency by identifying areas of improvement and revenue-generating opportunities. Overall, the use of data science is quickly becoming a crucial aspect of the insurance industry, helping insurers improve their decision making, create new products and services and enhance customer satisfaction.
This Special Issue covers methodologies and methods focused on the application of data science in the insurance and financial context. Owens et al. (2022) focus on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) (see Clinciu and Hastie 2019; Barredo Arrieta et al. 2020), which refers to the development of artificial intelligence systems that provide a clear and concise explanation of how their decisions are made. The demand for the production of more transparent models, the need fpr techniques that allow for humans to interact with them and the trustworthy inferences from such transparent models are the main justifications for the development of XAI. Starting from this consideration, the authors provide a systematic review about current applications of XAI within the insurance industry, which will contribute to the interdisciplinary understanding of applied XAI.
Sriram et al. (2023) tackle data preparation and cleaning by providing a novel application based on AI techniques and ML system architectures. In particular, the authors focus on policy listings data that pose their own unique challenges, and develop a holistic AI-based platform that standardize, improve and automate the data preparation of insurance through machine learning. Secondly, a rule-based, pairwise corporation entity resolution framework is provided that allows standardization of insured entities, enabling policy aggregations.
Neural networks have been exploited in Flaig and Junike (2022) and Jose et al. (2022). Generative adversarial networks (Goodfellow et al. 2014) are applied in Flaig and Junike (2022) to expand the scenario generation process to a complete market risk calculation for Solvency II purposes. The study shows that the proposed approach can represent a viable alternative method for market risk modelling beyond traditional economic scenario generators, which can also serve as regulatory-approved models, as they perform well in the EIOPA benchmarking study.
In Jose et al. (2022), an ensemble of statistical predictive models is developed in order to predict admission rates to hospitals (or other health facilities) related to respiratory diseases in a US population. The results indicate that the neural network-based models have better predictive performances compared to traditional GLM-type models. The proposed approach is mainly based on feed-forward neural network (FFNN) models and a combined actuarial neural network (CANN) approach (see Schelldorfer and Wuthrich 2019) under a negative binomial distributional assumption (Tzougas and Li 2021). Additionally, the approach exploits the advantages of the bias-regularised version of the negative binomial FFNN and CANN models Wüthrich (2019) and of the setup provided in Richman and Wüthrich (2023).
A support vector machine (SVM) is applied in Asimit et al. (2022). The main purpose of this paper is to reduce the effect of feature noise for binary SVM classifiers. The authors explore the internal structure of the classical SVM classifier to detect and tackle the feature noise via probabilistic arguments. In this paper, two powerful SVM-type classification algorithms are developed and discussed: the Single Perturbation SVM and Extreme Empirical Loss SVM. The authors conducted a large set of numerical experiments to test their effectiveness on synthetic and real-world datasets, both with and without noise contamination.
In Sangari et al. (2022), the authors provide a methodology which aims to correct under-reporting in cyber incidents in more than one dimension: revenue, event type and industry. The proposed approach allows us to quantify the extent of under-reporting in data sets of public cyber incidents.
In Boucher (2022b), the creation of different Bonus-Malus scales (BMS) for each type of insurance using recursive partitioning methods is proposed. Using a recursive division algorithm (see Diao and Weng 2019), several groups of the insured are created to apply a separate BMS model for each group. Recent BMS models, provided in the literature (Boucher 2022a; Boucher and Inoussa 2014; Verschuren 2021), generate the same surcharges and the same discounts for all policyholders because the transition rules within the class system do not depend on the a priori risk. In Boucher (2022b), insurers can create different BMSs to account for the differences in a priori risk.
In conclusion, this Special Issue highlights several applications of AI and ML in insurance. The AI is transforming the insurance industry by creating opportunities to improve risk management, automate key processes and gain deeper insights into customer behaviour. By leveraging data science, insurers can develop predictive models to better understand risk, automate underwriting and claims processing and create new products tailored to individual customer needs. Moreover, through the development of Explainable Artificial Intelligence, insurers can unlock the black box of AI decision making and build trust with customers and other stakeholders. The impact of AI on the insurance industry is very deep, and its full potential is only just starting to be realized.

Aging is a complex and multifactorial process resulting, at least partly, from the generation and accrual of damage in the setting of reduced resilience. A plethora of environmental and endogenous factors (i.e., exposomes) contribute to the mismatch between cellular damage and reparative capacity. Exposome constituents and their biological targets are only partially known. Nevertheless, core biological mechanisms, collectively known as the hallmarks of aging, have been identified and are actively investigated to develop therapeutics against chronic degenerative conditions.

This the last issue of Oasis, a journal launched in 2004. It is the occasion for a retrospective appraisal of the last 20 years in the Arab-Islamic world. The cycle opened by the September 11 2001 attacks has come to an end with the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Middle East exits from the terror impoverished and less diverse. It has undergone dramatic changes during the Covid pandemics and is facing an impending ecological crisis. Challenges are immense, but hope is not yet lost.

Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI

Beatrice Nicolini
Nicolini, Beatrice
Settore SPS/13 - STORIA E ISTITUZIONI DELL'AFRICA
e in Mali.

Settore SPS/07 - SOCIOLOGIA GENERALE
A huge number of epidemiological, clinical and laboratory studies have been published to mitigate the coronavirus pandemic crises and the findings from these studies are helping policy makers to understand how best to manage the current and future clinical and public health responses. In addition to impacting on infection and mortality rates due to COVID-19, government responses to reducing viral spread and “flattening the curve” have meant huge impacts on social and economic life across the globe. But research is also needed to explore the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 to assist policy makers to understand the impact of current interventions and plan future policy to mitigate unintended consequences of pandemic responses. In particular, the impacts of responses which brought social disruptions such as: closing down parts of the economy and increasing unemployment, forcing some people into “social isolation”, restricting freedom of movement, closing schools/universities/workplaces, reducing democratic decision making of governments and generally disrupting the ‘social order' of the pre-COVID-19 world are less investigated.
As part of this investigation, by the 12th of May 2020, a special topic entitled “COVID-19–Social Science Research during a Pandemic” was initiated by a dedicated team of scholars as guest editors to facilitate the timely peer-review and publication of relevant manuscripts from multiple studies (1). A total of 111 manuscripts were submitted between 12 May 2020 and 1 January 2021 of which 37 manuscripts were rejected while 74 manuscripts from 298 contributing authors from all over the globe including China, Italy, US, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia were published. Population in the studies included students, health workers, men who have sex with men (MSM), and general population.

Digital Data & Big Data
Spigno G.
Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI

As a result of the continuous advances in the field of digital and virtual technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence domains, we are experiencing profound and extremely rapid changes in almost every aspect of our human experience and are discovering new aspects of it as well. This revolution encompasses a variety of fields, including tourism, communication, entertainment, education, and art. In this special issue, “Emerging Technologies and Human Behaviour: Challenges in Artificial Intelligence, Social Robotics, and Virtual Reality in Psychology, Complex Experience and Artistic Domains”, to capture the key consequences of this rapid revolution on human behaviour and experience, we focused on the most salient discoveries in a wide variety of domains. Specifically, articles included in this collection focused on how and to what extent emerging technologies are re-shaping human life now and their potential impact in the near future. This collection of articles explores the impact of virtual reality on our emotions as well as artificial intelligence’s role in art creation, looking at how technological advances are reshaping our lives and presenting new opportunities of human experience. Contributors are from a wide variety of disciplines, as this topic covers different domains. Meta-themes addressed in this collection include the impact of novel robotics, virtual and artificial systems on emotions, attitudes, behaviours and their link with peculiar personality traits. More narrowed topics revolve around the use of technologies such Artificial Intelligence (including in education), Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality for the study of consumer decision-making process; the addiction attitude towards social media; and pre-diagnostic instrument that leverages Explainable Artificial Intelligence to enhance the diagnostic process of autism, among others. We privileged empirical articles and systematic theoretical contributions investigating the link between human experience and emerging technology in a specific domain, thus, offering theoretical and methodological guidelines for further research in the field. In the end we had 19 articles that met these inclusion criteria and that we included in this issue. First, we provide an overview of the most recent discoveries for each domain, and then, we deepened how articles in this issue add to existing literature. Then, we concluded with guidelines for future research in each specific domain and we justify the need for a more interdisciplinary effort across domains.

The editorial introduces and discusses the International Journal of Restorative Justice's special issue 'The evolving meaning of restorative justice: a discussion'. In fact, the special issue contains twelve texts by leading scholars and practitioners, a conversation and a series of book reviews that explore the concept, notion, boundaries, extension and possible development of the restorative 'idea'. The editorial discusses the main issues arising from the debate/discussion in the special issue and presents the guest editors' views on the topic. In particular, the two authors reflect on the notion(s) and field(s) of application of restorative justice in and outside of criminal matters, discuss the challenges for academic research and teaching arising from the expansion of the restorative idea, and look for common features of 'restorativeness' as a result of the transcultural and interdisciplinary discussion gathered in the special issue.

Settore M-PSI/06 - PSICOLOGIA DEL LAVORO E DELLE ORGANIZZAZIONI
Today’s human resource management professionals need to deploy a complex set of competencies to deal with different issues that are threatening organizations’ performance and even their survival.
The COVID-19 pandemic set off a situation that involves a rupture with the past, which has made HRM’s fragility and challenges—some of which already existed—emerge in an explosive and faster way. The current scenario can be defined in terms of ambiguity, uncertainty, precariousness, instability, and new possibilities as it never has been before.
Changes in traditional work processes and conditions have shaped an environment in which human resource management (HRM) is called on to face issues that range from changes in the way people work and interact in the workplace (rapid digitization, remote and virtual environments, groups, and team working) to the deep representations and meanings related to work, to foster productivity, innovation, and wellbeing.
HRM has recently been required to face important challenges because of the increasing complexity of organizations and the multidimensional nature of work. Despite all the advances that have been made in HRM studies, the social and economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis put researchers and practitioners in a position in which they face a lack of framework, procedures, and tools to guide and support professionals’ adjustment to all the drastic changes that happened in the work and social environment.
A broader and more interdisciplinary view is required to understand and take on HRM’s changes and challenges and to find new and integrated ways through which HRM can safeguard wellbeing, innovation, and productivity in organizations.

“Hospitals” as a name for a journal might appear simply as an umbrella term for healthcare-relevant research. It is certainly an inclusive and ambitious choice of title. We aspire for Hospitals to be a melting pot, and a home for all researchers interested in improving and innovating hospital policies, governance, and services, and empowering patients. From patient safety to hospital governance, fromsurgical simulation to employeemanagement, from autopsies to implementation of artificial intelligence, from hospital virtopsy to assessment of medical devices, and from medical malpractice to risk management, papers on biomedical,
medico-legal, economic, and legal aspects of hospital functions will be warmly welcomed. We acknowledge that some may be skeptical of a journal with such a broad scope. We are confident that this effort will be of great value to many fields, and we will work diligently to make Hospitals a meaningful and sound reflection of
current issues and innovations in hospital care and management.

La corretta informazione
Spigno G.
Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI

Giuseppe Rescio
Rescio, Giuseppe Alberto
Settore IUS/04 - DIRITTO COMMERCIALE

The management of health conditions that predispose individuals to the loss of independence (eg, frailty or cognitive impairment) is a public health concern and a topic of great interest to professionals who care for older adults. Evidence from randomised clinical trials shows that exercise improves physical performance in community-dwelling older adults. However, little information is available to guide prescription of physical exercise for maintenance or improvement of physical function of older adults living in residential care (...)

Emerging cross-disciplinary themes in corporate governance
research
Ilaria Galavotti
Galavotti, Ilaria
Settore SECS-P/07 - ECONOMIA AZIENDALE
Corporate governance as a field is witnessing an intellectual evolution, where
the traditional theoretical paradigms and the established research questions
genuinely coexist with and are fruitfully stimulated by fresh lines of inquiry.
This mutually supportive coexistence is nurturing an original and cross-fertilizing
debate, which is both revisiting the mainstream approaches and revealing
the diversified nature of the themes surfacing the research agenda. Also,
the literature on corporate governance is increasingly consolidating the conversations
with other fields, such as the finance, strategic management, and organizational
behavior fields. This process is inspiring an ongoing inter-disciplinary dialogue. This
issue of Corporate Board: Role, Duties and Composition represents a striking
example of such a theoretical and thematic integration at the intersection of
multiple fields.

Nascent themes and revived interests in corporate governance
Galavotti, Ilaria
Galavotti, Ilaria
Settore SECS-P/07 - ECONOMIA AZIENDALE
Research on Corporate Governance is undoubtedly significant in terms of a number of contributions, research topics, theoretical frameworks, and methodological approaches (Aguilera et al., 2019). The proliferation of studies on corporate governance as a field and on the multiple implications that corporate governance may have on organizational behavior has nurtured the development of a variety of themes in the last decades (Filatotchev & Boyd, 2009). This, in turn, has also encouraged the establishment of conceptual and thematic intersections across heterogenous research areas. Collectively,
the diverse thematic areas and the potential for cross-fertilizations fruitfully contribute to an ongoing revitalization of corporate governance, by introducing both fresh research questions and potentially original academic conversations.

QUESTIONI INELIMINABILI CIRCA L’AVVIO DELLA VITA UMANA. ANNOTAZIONI
OLTRE LA LEGGE
Eusebi, L

Settore IUS/17 - DIRITTO PENALE
completezza dell’informazione, dialogo e forme d’impegno condiviso onde prevenire in
The paper emphasises human and ethical issues that affect the conduct of pregnancy,
and procreation in general: issues that cannot be removed whatever the regulations in
force on the subject are. This pursuing completeness of information, dialogue and forms
of shared commitment in order to concretely prevent events injurious to human life. In
particular, the role of women, hitherto inadequately supported, with regard to the
initial phase of human life, is deeply investigated. A specific analysis is devoted to the
modes of action of so-called emergency contraception. It is also highlighted how extracorporeal
fecundation techniques raise the question, transversal to the various thought
orientations but mostly evaded, concerning the criteria of human procreation.

Osteosarcopenic obesity: a triple threat for older adults?

Advancing age is associated with body composition changes that impact the health status and overall wellbeing of older adults. Muscle mass decreases, contributing to the loss of strength and physical function, a condition known as sarcopenia. Declining bone mineral density leads to osteopenia or osteoporosis, with an increased risk of fractures. Adipose tissue accumulates, redistributes, and infiltrates organs, causing chronic inflammation, metabolic disturbances, and additional mechanical load on the musculoskeletal system. These pathological conditions are interdependent and result in a range of clinical phenotypes.

Spesso buono oltre
Spigno G.
Spigno, Giorgia
Settore AGR/15 - SCIENZE E TECNOLOGIE ALIMENTARI
