This paper focus on new methods based on digital research. The emergence of the digital society has enabled scientists to develop new methods of investigation by using the Internet as a channel for data collection. The techniques relating to digital research may, for the sake of simplicity, be grouped into two main categories. The first includes traditional search techniques which have migrated to the Internet (e.g. web surveys, online interviews, online focus groups, digital ethnography, etc.) The second reflects the emergence of new, digital native methods of investigation which exploit the ability of the net to capture data (e.g., digital methods, sentiment analysis, etc. ).Both categories are explored in this paper, considering the implications on sociology and some possibilities to integrate offline and onìline research strategies.
