Abstract

This contribution shows that during the first half of the nineteenth century agronomic knowledge becomes European: analysis concerns in particular the French case, Belgian and of Northern Italy. European agronomists and farmers share their know-how and gradually form a European network land. The results of their studies and esperiences were presented at conferences and ha been published in the proceedings of these meetings or in major agricultural journals. They created a “Europe of paper”, thanks to the dissemination of books and magazines and so they expanded the knowledge in agronomy, improving production, productivity and the quality of life in the countryside. In addition, this “Common Knowledge” prepared a new generation of farmers and agronomists in the second half of the nineteenth century. The “European agronomists” in the Northern of Italy created several agrarian schools and developed some researches in agronomy in linking as the chemical industry.
