Abstract

The experience of loss is one of the most important and meaningful experiences, because of its emotional relevance, and, at the same time, it's the most universal and unavoidable experience in life. The denial of human limitedness and sufference, in our society, prevents education from including temporality and frailty of existence, in spite of trying in vain to avoid and neutralize them. Education to death beguins from the conception of life that we intend to convey. The wrong idea that the early experience of pain could damage their kids induces parents to keep them away from truth, but the silence that surrounds the end of life enhances the troubles and loneliness of childhood. Children can face death with the greatest naturalness and cope with the quest for meaning that death produces, as long as their parents are able to establish a honest, mature and balanced dialogue with them. And, above all, if their parents are able to testify that death doesn't deprive life of its meaning, but makes it possible.
