The article puts forward a new ypothesis about the identification of the otherwise unknown “Sanctus Danesius” prayed by Cingar in Teofilo Folengo’s Baldus (XII, 521-528). The benedictine monk Folengo might have known the legend of Saint Ogier, whose alleged relics were venerated in the French abbey of Saint-Faron at Meaux. In the same period the abbey was visited by Gabriello Symeoni, a Florentine humanist who was in touch with Teofilo’s patron duke Federico I Gonzaga. Some remarks are also made about anothe part of the peculiar Cingar’s devotions: the puzzling “Ascensa’s clogs”, wich were said to have been found by the Portugueses in Ceylon. Folengo might aim here at some apocryphal cults used by the Europeans to justify the conquest of the Asian regions.
