The modern studies identify the local historiography of Athens with the Atthides (V-IV c. BC). The absence of a local historiography after the Hellenistic age raises the crucial question about the existence of an Athenian local historiography during the Roman period. This paper considers the role of the lexica until the revival of the Athenian historiography in Late Antiquity and analyzes the Attidographic work of Dexippus and Paxagoras between III and IV c. AD.

Abstract
The modern studies identify the local historiography of Athens with the Atthides (V-IV c. BC). The absence of a local historiography after the Hellenistic age raises the crucial question about the existence of an Athenian local historiography during the Roman period. This paper considers the role of the lexica until the revival of the Athenian historiography in Late Antiquity and analyzes the Attidographic work of Dexippus and Paxagoras between III and IV c.
