This volume highlights some specificities of the six Arab States of the Gulf, providing clues to their better understanding. It deals with the most significant aspects of the political, institutional, social and cultural realities which characterise the GCC region, delving into their origins and their meanings from a historical perspective, through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach with emphasis on the “inside view”. The region in itself is analysed as an unicum in the Arab-Islamic world, maintaining its great strategic importance both for the West and, today even more, for Asia – China and India in primis. Within the general re-definition of balances underway on a global level, the importance of a “GCC-EU partnership” is not neglected. The social-economic evolution of the last thirty years is traced, with special reference to the non-oil industrialisation process in Saudi Arabia and in Bahrain.

Abstract
The social-economic evolution of the last thirty years is traced, with special reference to the non-oil industrialisation process in Saudi Arabia and in Bahrain.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
