This Cranec Working Paper is the result of a two-year essay activity (2018-2019) by Alberto Quadrio-Curzio on the columns of "Huffington Post Italia" (now "Huffpost") on institutional and economic issues that have concerned Europe in connection to Italy. The central pivot of the reflection is that the European Union is the largest and most civilized space of democracy in the world. Eurodemocracy is a variant of Federalism and Confederalism, which is configured as a novelty among the great institutions since the World War II. A legislative and government system with a Parliament, a Federalist Commission and an Intergovernmental Council that requires continuous concerted and inclusive negotiation. From an economic point of view, the EU is in many ways the most important player in the world. It is equipped with a powerful central bank and a very varied productive system pivoting around the integration between business and work, which are not only a relationship of dependence but also an expression of participation. It is the model of social liberalism or liberal solidarity. In short, we discuss how the shift of Italian-European institutional relations from a logic of opposition to a logic of convergence could bring back the dimension of a Euro-Italy in which skills and convictions prevail over conflicts.
