Le collezioni d'arte contemporanea dell'Università Cattolica

The chapter describes the historical and artistic events of the contemporary period of the Catholic University, starting from the years of the institution of the new seat up to the present time, while addressing the theoretical debate on the relationship between contemporary art and religious thought. The central figures of this artistic and theoretical debate at the beginning are those of Father Gemelli and the two sculptors Giannino Castiglioni and Giacomo Manzù, invited to create works for the new spaces of the university designed by the architect Giovanni Muzio. The essay also dwells on the nineteenth-century works of art, which became part of the university's collections at different times, and on the artistic patrimony of the second half of the twentieth century, acquired thanks to the activity of the Pastoral Center within the event "Itinenari di arte e spiritualità" (Itineraries of art and spirituality).

Il capitolo descrive le vicende storico artistiche dell'epoca contemporanea dell'Università Cattolica, a partire dagli anni dell'istituzione della nuova sede fino all'epoca attuale, affrontando nel contempo il dibattito teorico sul rapporto tra arte contemporanea e pensiero religioso. Le figure centrali di questo dibattito artistico e teorico alle origini sono quelle di padre Gemelli e dei due scultori Giannino Castiglioni e Giacomo Manzù, invitati a realizzare opere per i nuovi spazi dell'università progettati dall'architetto Giovanni Muzio. Il saggio si sofferma ache sulle opere d'arte ottocentesche, entrate in epoche diverse a far parte delle collezioni dell'università e sul patrimonio artistico del secondo novecento, acquisito grazie all'attività del Centro Pastorale nell'ambito della manifestazione "Itinenari di arte e spiritualità".
