In the second half of the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire was a point of interest for the Vatican. Leo XIII developed an original Eastern policy through diplomacy and religious and cultural action to try to preserve the integrity of the Empire, which represented a precious space of coexistence between Christians and Muslims.
