The book presents a detailed study of the genesis, elaboration and publication of Keats's "La Belle Dame Sans Merci". After a critical comparison of the two printed texts, a new reading of this poem is proposed, in which, starting from a reevaluation of Keats's ideas regarding women, knowledge and poetry, it is argued that the initial narrator of the poem reflects Keats's idea of the poet of "thoughts", that the Belle Dame embodies Keats's notion of the poet of "sensations", and that the main narrator represents Keats's concept of the poet able to fuse sensations and thoughts in an ideal synthesis.

Abstract
The book presents a detailed study of the genesis, elaboration and publication of Keats's "La Belle Dame Sans Merci". After a critical comparison of the two printed texts, a new reading of this poem is proposed, in which, starting from a reevaluation of Keats's ideas regarding women, knowledge and poetry, it is argued that the initial narrator of the poem reflects Keats's idea of the poet of "thoughts", that the Belle Dame embodies Keats's notion of the poet of "sensations", and that the main narrator represents Keats's concept of the poet able to fuse sensations and thoughts in an ideal synthesis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
