Abstract

Different modes of organization are evoked in transactions costs theory: the market as a way of sub-contracting, the hierarchy as an integration mechanism, and the network as an intermediate form to the two precedents. After a theoretical discussion based on the disappearance of frontiers with a relational based view of enterprises, we explain why an immutable organizational classification presents an interest limited regarding to contemporaries strategy practices. Indeed, to some empirical examples light, organizing appears in this article, as a combination of different ideal types where several mechanisms of coordination are mixed, such as price, contract, authority and trust, nevertheless judged incompatible between them in traditional classification.
